These terms apply when you book a vehicle inspection with Brisbane Car Inspection. They explain what we will do and what an inspection can and cannot tell you. They also explain what happens if there is a problem with the service.
1. About these terms
In these terms “we”, “us” and “our” mean Brisbane Car Inspection. “You” means the person or business booking the inspection. When you make a booking you agree to these terms.
2. Booking an inspection
Your booking is confirmed once we accept it and receive your payment or deposit. We will contact the seller to arrange a suitable time and then confirm the booking with you. Inspection times are estimates and can be affected by traffic, weather or the seller’s availability.
We may need to decline or cancel a booking. This may happen if the vehicle is outside our service area, the inspection location is unsafe or we cannot get proper access to the vehicle. If we cancel for one of these reasons we will give you a full refund.
3. What the inspection includes
The inspection will depend on the package you book. The inclusions for each package are listed on the relevant service page.
In general an inspection includes a visual and functional check of the vehicle. This can cover its mechanical condition, body and paint, interior, electrical systems, tyres, brakes and suspension. We also check accessible areas underneath the vehicle. A road test may be carried out when it is safe and legal to do so.
4. What the inspection does not include
This is the most important part of these terms. A pre-purchase inspection is a check of the vehicle at a particular point in time. We do not take the vehicle apart to find hidden problems. An inspection cannot find every fault and it does not guarantee how the vehicle will perform in the future.
- We do not dismantle anything. We do not remove trim or panels. We do not open the engine or gearbox or remove other parts of the vehicle. A fault that can only be found after dismantling will not be covered by the inspection.
- We report what we find on the day. If an intermittent fault does not happen while we are inspecting the vehicle we may not be able to identify it. A part that is working on the day can also fail later.
- Site conditions can affect the inspection. With a mobile inspection things such as rain, poor lighting, uneven ground or limited space can make some areas harder to inspect. We will let you know if this limits our assessment.
- A road test may not be possible. We will not drive a vehicle that is unregistered, uninsured or unroadworthy. We also will not carry out a road test if the seller does not allow it.
- We do not check whether the seller’s statements are true. Information about service history, ownership or the reason for selling the vehicle is recorded based on what is provided to us.
- Repair costs are estimates. Any repair costs included in the report are only there to give you an idea of possible expenses. They are not quotes and the final cost can be different.
5. Access to the vehicle
You need to make sure the seller is happy for the vehicle to be inspected. We will contact the seller and arrange the time but we cannot make them provide access.
If our inspector arrives and cannot inspect the vehicle because it is not there, the seller does not attend, access is refused or the location is unsafe, we may charge a call-out fee for the visit. We will try to contact you before doing this.
6. Fees and payment
Our prices are listed on our pricing and service pages and include GST. Travel within our published service area is included in the price.
If the vehicle is outside that area or you ask for an additional service such as a battery health test or paint depth check there may be an extra fee. We will let you know about any extra fee before carrying out the additional work.
7. Cancellations, rescheduling and refunds
- If you cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours prior to the inspection date we will either reschedule your booking or refund in full.
- We keep a reasonable amount if cancelled without the notice of 24 hours or more.
- If we cancel the booking or cannot carry out the inspection for a reason that is within our control you will receive a full refund.
- Once the inspection is completed and the report has been sent to you the service has been provided. This does not remove any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
8. Your report
Your report is prepared for you and relates to the vehicle inspected on the date of the inspection. It gives our opinion based on what we could see and check at that time.
You can show the report to the seller and use it when deciding whether to buy or when negotiating the price. You cannot republish or resell the report or use it as advertising or a sales document for the vehicle. We are not responsible to anyone other than you who relies on the report.
9. Not a warranty, roadworthy certificate or valuation
Our inspection is not a warranty or insurance policy. It is not a Queensland safety certificate or roadworthy certificate and cannot be used as one. If we give you a market value range it is only a guide and is not a formal valuation.
Whether you buy the vehicle and how much you pay for it is your decision.
10. Our liability and your rights
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. This includes providing the service with due care and skill. Nothing in these terms takes away any right or guarantee that cannot legally be excluded.
Where the law allows us to limit our liability for a failure to meet a consumer guarantee we may choose to provide the inspection again or pay the cost of having the inspection provided again.
Apart from this we are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss. We are also not responsible for faults that could not reasonably have been found within the scope of the inspection described in section 4.
11. Intellectual property
The copyright in our reports, photographs and website belongs to Brisbane Car Inspection. You can use your inspection report for your own purposes in connection with the vehicle that was inspected.
12. Privacy
We handle your personal information in line with our privacy policy.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any legal matter relating to these terms will be dealt with by the courts of Queensland.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Any terms that are published when making the booking will apply. The terms are the latest revision date at the top of this page.
